Sulu receives P30M project assistance from OPAPP

CAPITOL SITE, Patikul, Sulu - "Misyon ng Kapayapaan," this was the reason OPAPP Director Susana Marcaida and Brig. Gen. Gerardo Layug met with Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan and municipal chief executives at the Sulu Capitol recently. Their aim was to have a mechanism for project implementation and identify projects that are acceptable to the community.

Targetted areas includes those of the MNLF and under-developed barangays.
P1.5M project assistance per municipality will be given by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process to jumpstart development and improve conditions of inhabitants of areas concerned.

Gov. Tan said that MNLF areas will be developed and even the provincial government is ready to assist in providing opportunities and better the lives of our MNLF...

Relics of Sulu´s violent past are evident throughout Jolo. At the entrance of the town are four gates used as watchtowers during Spanish times. Building that were gutted by fire or riddled with bullets during the 1970´s still stand.
