“SULU MANGOSTEEN IS THE BEST”- SULU GOVERNOR TOTO TAN

CELEBRATION OF THE SULU MANGOSTEEN FESTIVAL

Department of Agriculture-ARMM Sulu Office – Garcinia mangostana or purple mangosteen, or simply MANGOSTEEN took the Spotlight, this morning, in CELEBRATION of the Sulu MANGOSTEEN Festival 2018.

Participants from the diffeent sectors of Sulu, put out on display original products of the Province using the MANGOSTEEN FRUIT as the Primary Ingredient.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS of MAIMBUNG , INDANAN, TALIPAO, PANGLIMA ESTINO, PATIKUL , PARANG, JOLO, LUUK are among those who maintained exhibit booths, which showcased different varieties of local fruits and homegrown products from their locality with MANGOSTEEN at the forefront.

Aside from the LGU’s, other exhibitors of the Festival are MINDANAO STATE University, Red Cross , KANKITAP, and SULU ORIGINALS .

MANGOSTEEN based developed products with free samples are made available for guests to try and buy.

Some of the mangosteen products are :
Mangosteen Ice Cream (2 versions), mangosteen Tea, mangosteen Jam mangosteen coffee, Ang Aming mangosteen herbal tonic, mangosteen halal tea juice made from leave and rinds, Mangosteen preserve, mangosteen powder.

Other non-mangosteen products available are: cassava flour, cassava chips, KANCA alternative organic oil, special bukayo, special Bubuk, special rice puffs (GAGATI), Tawal wild honey with Black oil and many others.

Despite the inclement Weather, Sulu Governor Abdusakur A. Tan II was full of enthusiasm while going around each exhibitors booth, checking and tasting some food products on display.

In his speech, Governor Tan requested Regional Officials to assists in the marketing of Sulu’s local products, to become viable to consumers outside the province.

“SULU MANGOSTEEN IS THE BEST.”, Tan, stressed.

Tan also proposed that the Festival be celebrated annually.

“The mangosteen festival is a great way to bring opportunities, possibilities and celebrate what is part of our very own landscape.”

Provincial agri Officer Mercian Aspi is optimistic that the development and tapping into the health benefits and other uses of the mangosteen fruit is something that can be exploited, a boon to local farmers financially.

“Like the Popular SUPPLEMENT MX3, We are trying to discover other potentials that can be derived from mangosteen fruit.”, Aspi, explains.

Participants competed in Mangosteen Singkit making and mangosteen eating contest, Game Winners received cash prizes.

According to ORGANIC Facts, Health benefits of mangosteen include a reduced risk of cancer, inflammation, allergies, and diabetes. It has antioxidant, antifungal, and antibacterial properties which help in protecting the body against various ailments and also boosts the immune system. Mangosteen is also beneficial in maintaining healthy skin, weight management, and providing relief from diarrhea and dysentery.
